Yay!Timer Mission: Reliable Voice Announcements
Yay!Timer was created out of frustration with existing interval timer apps that would fail at the worst possible moment—during intense workouts.
We built Yay!Timer to solve this problem once and for all. Our revolutionary Persistent Mode ensures that voice announcements continue working flawlessly even when your screen is off, the app is in the background, or Android is aggressively managing memory.
Our mission is simple: Create the most reliable interval timer on Android that never lets users down.
Why We Built Persistent Mode
The Problem: Android stops Text-to-Speech after a few minutes with the screen locked, which is why many interval timer apps need the screen to stay on for voice announcements (not battery efficient) or use simple beeps for interval end. After 5 to 30 minutes Android initiates Light Doze Mode which further constrains apps.
The Breakthrough: We developed a dual-mode audio system. In Persistent Mode, Yay!Timer pre-generates the entire workout as a single audio file, then plays it through an isolated foreground service. This makes Android treat your workout like music playback—giving it protection from system interference.
The Result: Yay!Timer is the only interval timer that can survive your phone screen locking, switching apps, or even Android killing the main app to free up memory (the audio is played in a separate process). When you reopen the app, it instantly restores to the exact current interval state.
